Introduction to "Facebook"?

I have heard a lot about the latest hype "Facebook" found at www.facebook.com. I heard it was a hybrid of myspace, blogging, and instant messaging. When I tried to sign up, it asked for my company name or school and also needed an invite. However when I type in the school and or business it gave me random names I didnt see before. I would really appreciate anyone who could give me an introduction to this service.

Please include:

-How do you sign up if you dont know the people supposedly in your school/business.

-Once signed in, can you access all users of facebook or only those of your school/business.

-Is there any other way to sign up.

-Any noteable features of Facebook.

Thank you very much.

Introduction to "Facebook"?
to use facebook you need to sign up with you school's e-mail address. i'm not sure how it works with a business, but college students get a school e-mail address. i can't give you much more of a detailed description of how to register, because i already have an account. if the business/school isn't on facebook, you can e-mail them and request that they add your network.

you can access all the facebook users from the same network as you (ie, everyone who goes to the same college as me) as for people not on the same network as you, you have to "friend" them, which is similar to the myspace version of friend-ing. you can search for the person's name, and you have a few options, (you can either send a message, "poke," or add to friends) and if the person accepts you friend-ing, then s/he will appear on your friends list.

if the person is from your network or is your friend, you can view his/her profile which includes interests, (music, movies, tv, books, etc) quotes, and about me section where people write whatever they want, and contact information, where they live, etc. you can also view pictures of that person. the difference between facebook and myspace here is that you post albums of whatever pictures you want, and you tag the pictures with the names of the people in them. that way, when you press "View more pictures of [insert name]" you can see all the pictures that people have posted. there's also a wall on your page that people can write and leave comments on.

you can also search for people by characteristics, such as tv shows they have listed, books they have listed, music, movies, dorms, addresses, phone numbers...pretty much anything.

you make your profile and put down any information about yourself you want to share. relationship status (if your spouse is on facebook, you can list the name) is fun...

you can send messages to anyone

there are also common interest groups you can join...some of them are serious...like "Class of 2009" and others are kindof..well, you decide, "Don't Your Hate Pants?" (i kid you not, its a group) you can create groups and everything...

you can invite people to events over facebook...there's more stuff like that we don't use as often.

that's all i can think of off the top of my head...enjoy :D

I HATE FACEBOOK

ITS ANOTHER SUPERFICIAL WEB SITE

WHERE THE HOES WILL BE ASKING FOR CYBER AND THE NERDS WILL BE ALL UP ON GOOGLE LOOKING FOR PICTURES OF HOTT PEOPLE THEY COULD "BE"

FACEBOOK WILL NOT BE ANYTHING ELSE BUT ANOTHER ADDICTION FAKING SITE

NO ONE CAN BE THEM SELVES THESE DAYS
Reply:Facebook is the school version of Myspace. It started off as a community exclusively for college students and only recently became available to high school students. In order to sign up for Facebook, you need a valid college email address (one recogzied by Facebook as an address assigned by a school). You can sign up with any email server (such as Yahoo!, Hotmail, or GMail) but that would sign you up as a high school student. After becoming a member, you can only view profiles of users in your "network", meaning your school or university. You can request to become someone's friend, and upon approval you will be able to see their profile. Facebook offers more privacy than Myspace and also allows users to create an unlimited amount of photo albums with captions and tags.
Reply:Its mainly for University Students, if you attend a university, then you can add friends if they approve, and find people in your classes and in your university, also its a great way to stay in contact with your highschool friends from other universities.
